Bwindi Fauna

Bwindi is known to have a rich fauna community in East Africa and highly significant is the prescence of over a third of the world’s mountain gorilla population. The park has 120 mammal species including 14 primate species. Species include eastern chimpanzee Pan troglodytes schweinfurthi, African elephant Loxodonta Africana which are estimated to be 30, primate species include black-and-white colobus Colobus guereza, red-tailed guenon C. ascanius schmidti, blue guenon C. mitis mitis, vervet C. aethiops, and olive baboon Papio anubis plus nocturnal prosimians. In addition, there are bushpig Potamochoerus larvatus, giant forest hog Hylochoerus meinertzhageni, bushbuck Tragelaphus scriptus, yellowbacked and blackfronted duiker Cephalophus sylvicultor.

Why You Should Visit Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

No person has ever complained after spending some time with very fascinating Mountain Gorillas in Uganda within Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, which is among the most stunning rainforest anyone will ever come across. In addition Bwindi National Park is among Africa’s most ancient rainforests, in search of the vulnerable mountain gorilla, ranks among one of the world’s premier wildlife encounters. There are 12 habituated gorilla families in Bwindi Impenetrable Park that can be tracked by visitors in the four sectors of Buhoma, Nkuringo, Ruhiija and Rushaga. All families exhibit unique behaviors and characteristics, and if you have enough time and resources you can track more than one group during gorilla safaris. A maximum of eight people are allowed to track each gorilla family at any given time in order to conserve their natural habitat and keep them safe from infections. The duration of the trek depends on the family allocated and their GPS location in each sector, though reservations are made for less fit visitors to trek nearby families.
